Self Drive Holidays & Tours - South Africa

For the independent traveller there is no better way to view South Africa at your own pace than self drive. Enjoy the freedom of driving from beaches to mountains, wineries and safari lodges choosing where you would like to stay, what you want to see and for how long. This is the ultimate road trip adventure.

There are so many different routes you could take with the most popular being the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. You can stop at various towns each with their own unique feel and landscape.

A favourite stop along the way is Plettenberg Bay which offers visitors unspoilt beaches, rocky peninsulas, towering forests and the opportunity for whale watching. Or strap your surfboard to the top of the car and hit the waves at Cape St Francis or the famous break of Jeffrey’s Bay, better known as J-Bay.

Another popular drive is in the north from Sun City to Madikwe Game Reserve, only a few hours drive from Johannesburg. This self drive takes you from South Africa’s premier holiday resort to viewing the big five in the 76,000 hectare game reserve.

South Africa has an excellent road system with frequent and easy to read signs. Petrol is widely available and driving is on the same side of the road making your self drive adventure an enjoyable one.

Cape Town

We woke up in Cape Town to blue skies,  perfect as we were heading to Table Mountain and knew it meant we were in for some great views from the top.  Tickets in hand we headed to the cable car which can carry 65 people at a time, and you stand the whole way up as the car rotates 180°C.  A very smooth ride, you didn’t even feel like you were moving.
